SSFPP Condems Arrests Of FRFI Members

The Scottish Support For Political Prisoners today condems the arrests and prosecution of Dominic O'Hara & Johnathon Simmons both activists of the Glasgow branch of Fight Racism, Fight Imperialism ! for peacefully protesting alongside the students against the cuts in Glasgow City Centre on Thursday afternoon, Both were realesed on bail yesterday (Friday) pending a further trial date on 19th January at Glasgow Sheriff Court, We the Scottish Support For Political Prisoners will do all we can to help both Dominic & Johnathon and urge all of our comrades and supporters to do the same !

    Thanks Comrades for the support. When I watch and listen to what's going on with the protests I am reminded of Ireland.Of British Imperialism's war against the Irish people. They talk of water cannon,tear gas and plastic bullets. We must be the voices letting the new protestors know about the children who were murdered by plastic bullets in the Occupied Six Counties. People need to know that the British ruling class conspired through its army and police with loyalist killers to murder solicitors like Pat Finucane and Rosemary Nelson. It is that brutal. We need to be supporting the new movements and telling the youth about this, through leaflets, speeches and meetings. No one else will tell them about British repression in Ireland. We need to stand together in common cause.

    On behalf of the Glasgow Defence Campaign and Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! can we thank the Scottish Support for Political Prisoners for their welcome to us on Saturday as we stood with them with our No To Political Policing banner.

    Thanks especially to one of their members who was right over when the cops visited and very forcefully told them that selling Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! was not illegal and did not require any licence or permission. It was good to see the cops slink away when they realised that interference with political rights was not going to happen without resistance!

    Also thanks to all the Celtic supporters who took the Defend Democratic Rights leaflets as we all stood together in common cause to defend the rights of Irish political prisoners and to oppose police interference with protest against budget cuts here. One Struggle! One Fight! We stand united to say "Police Hands off Protest!"

    Can we urge everyone to get along to the Glasgow Defence Campaign Fighting the Cuts and Defending Democratic Rights meeting this Wednesday 26 January, 7-9pm. Langside Halls, 1 Langside Avenue, Shawlands
